Cushion in wax and appliqué.
These cushions are sewn by hand in a raw cotton canvas, from the cotton culture in Benin. Called "ecru", this raw canvas is soft and unbleached. The material softens and acquires a patina over time. It will nicely decorate a space for children, a dining room or a living room with fantasy and exoticism.
We love working with this material and this time we worked with my mother on a small collection of decorative cushions with an applied waxed cotton fabric called "wax" or "ankara fabric", which represents some facets of the culture of ancient kingdom of Dahomey (current Benin) as (the chameleon, the spinning wheel, the Récamier). All of these patterns come from West African popular culture.
